An idea for offsetting your CO2 emmissions by supporting the "Replanting the Rainforest" project

I've gone through the "Replanting the Rainforest" material ... I don't know if you've all seen it ... it's good stuff.

In the material it is stated that the planting of 25 trees offsets an average household's CO2 emmissions. Since an sponsoring fee of 10.000 EUR ensures that 2.000 - 3.000 trees are planted and taken under care, simple math tells me, that I with an investment 100 EUR can do exactly that - namely offset an average household's (my own family's) carbon footprint!

Now I only need to find 100 friends who are willing to join forces with me, so we can turn 100 times 100 EUR in to 10.000 EUR, ... hold on ... wait a minute .... Open World Cafe in itself has more than 100 members ... so is anybody with me on this one? Should we get involved? We'll figure out the logistics later.

Great suggestion Jacob! I am with you! It is by acting that we will acheive the required results. It is not only about offseting our carbon foot-print - it is also about setting an example! Now I urge other mebers here to do the same! Jacob - will you be coordinating the logistics?

Of course, I'll coordinate.

To make it easier to administrate, I suggest that OWC-members who want to participate make me your friend on this network, and send me a messagge saying exactly that. (Non-OWC-members can of course sign up first, and then follow the procedure described above)

On this discussion string I'll then post the current number of participants (current participants: 2).

When we reach critical mass (let's aim for September 1st), I'll get Christer to send each individual a bank account number, where we can donate the money. I'll then coordinate, that each participant gets a copy of the certificate for our rainforest ... and maybe a badge to post on your web-site, facebook, myspace, so you can be an ambassador for the project and maybe get other communities involved.

I agree - it's all about setting an example!

Spread the word!

I'm three! My own 100 m2 of rainforest! What a wonderful thought, so much better since I know where it is, what it looks like - I can even smell it!
Join us and experience YOUR RAINFOREST this fall on the Replanting a Rainforest Retreat (see "events" page). This picture shows the valley where three natural springs have their source, and where we have begun "Replanting a Rainforest" at the Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (www.fafbrazil.com). This is the first lot of 22 hectares out of a total of 284 hectares which has been dedicated as a legal natural reserve by our friends and partners Marcos Croce and Silvia Barretto from the organic coffee and banana plantation Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza. Thank you again Jacob!

Hi Jacob,

Where can I find the "Replanting the Rainforest" material?
I would like to go through it and have an idea of where you are, what is already there (current state) what the progress is and where we want to be in the future. Is there a planning available?

Thank you and sunny regards from sunny Belgium (for the time being ;-) )

Kurt

Hi Emelie.

Thank you for your contribution - both here and to the poject in general.

Actually you're #11 meaning that we've raised 1.100 EUR at this point in time! The goal is 10.000 EUR by the end of September, which will buy us a hectare of Open World Cafe rainforest af FAF ... so spread the word!
